Why do business in Poland?

Poland is increasingly asserting itself in Europe as a host of foreign investments, both for its strategic position between the West and Asia and for the active policies of attracting capital and investments.

The country’s political stability plays a fundamental role, an ever-constant economic growth that sees the country at the bottom of the public debt-to-GDP ratio compared to the European average.

Poland is preparing to enter the Eurozone, confirming the increasingly important role played by the single currency in the markets.

Furthermore, the Polish labour market offers a wide variety of skilled and qualified labourers, especially in IT and research.

How to settle in Poland and benefit from state subsidies and exemptions.

Foreign entrepreneurs coming from the European Union who wish to start a business activity in Poland will be able to benefit from the same rules applied to Polish entrepreneurs, choosing one of the company forms provided for by the law as, for instance, limited companies.

Once the company is established, the entrepreneur can start the formalities to obtain the benefits made available by the government, preferring first of all the settlement in one of the facilitated geographical areas (SEZ) and obtaining a special permit from the local authorities.

The settlement in these Special Areas mainly allows tax exemptions on income and labour costs provided that the activity is managed for a minimum of 5 years and new jobs are created to be guaranteed for the same period.

Settlement in an SEZ also allows logistical benefits, with the possibility of greatly reducing settlement costs as well as exemption from payment of property tax and administrative formalities.

The main Special Economic Zones fall within the municipalities of Lodz, Slupsk, Sopot, Suwalki, Olsztyn, Katowice, Krakòw and Kamienna Gora.

The national government also recognizes facilities for particular investments in the transport, automotive, tertiary, research and development sectors.

The amount of grants that can be awarded depends on a series of parameters including the number of jobs expected, the chosen position, the sector of activity and the investment costs.

Strategic choice, especially in some specific sectors, is to prefer Strategic Poles scattered throughout the country, which guarantee an adequate level of industrial, technological and logistics infrastructures.

A model that is becoming increasingly popular in Northern Europe, as a catalyst for investments, resources and know-how. Poland therefore increasingly affirms the tendency of North-Eastern Europe as the fulcrum of international commercial investments and driving the continent’s economic growth with a view to the east.
